Improving Funding Results – Carol Sam

The seminar will familiarise Community Organisations with the key funding services including; Lottery, Trusts and Government Programmes, and with the types of activities these programmes seek to support. It will cover:

  • Identifying the correct programme for your project
  • Writing the proposal and satisfying the criteria
  • Constructing a project budget and demonstrating added value
  • Keeping up to date with new programmes
  • Sources of information and further help

Through a combination of presentations, group discussions and exercises, delegates will find out about the latest initiatives and leave with a better knowledge of the key programmes and the outcomes they are seeking to achieve.
Carol Sam will use her experience as a bid writer, project manager and assessor and offer important tips on how to write a successful application and make it stand out from the crowd.

Safer Food, Better Business – Thomas Chan

This seminar is delivered in Cantonese in the morning and repeated in the afternoon in English.
The seminar will highlight and clarify to those involved in the food business, issues around the need for ensuring due diligence and providing safer food for their customers. It will cover the principles behind “Safer Food, Better Business” and will explain how caterers can achieve the food safety standards required by the Environmental Health Officers.
The format will include presentations with audience participation and case studies followed by a question and answers session.
Thomas Chan is qualified in the area of Food Safety and Hygiene and serves on the Consumer Committee of the Food Standards Agency. He will use his knowledge of the Food industry and his vast business experience to ensure that delegates leave with a better understanding of the impact of food safety on business results and how the issues can be addressed. Copies of the seminar slides will be available for delegates.

Nails and Beauty - New Regulations – Xuan Vuong

This seminar is delivered in Vietnamese.
The seminar will familiarise salon owners and technicians with the new code of practice issued by Habia (Hair and Beauty Industry Authority) this year and the necessary qualifications that may become a requirement in the near future. It will cover

  • Infection control
  • Safe use of the electric file
  • Salon safety including COSHH
  • Qualifications

Xuan Vuong is a SFEDI accredited community-based business adviser with qualifications and experience in the Banking sector and the Nail and Beauty industry. Through presentations, handouts and brainstorming sessions, Xuan will use her knowledge of forthcoming regulations and experience of running her own business to give delegates a better understanding of occupational standards and qualifications. Delegates will learn how to prepare for the future and compete effectively without lowering their prices.

Raising Business Awareness ­– Fartuun Shide

This seminar is delivered in Somali.
The seminar will give delegates all the information they need to start up their own business including; writing the business plan, financing the business and the possibility of qualifying for an enterprise grant.
Fartuun Shide is a SFEDI accredited community-based business adviser with a finance and accounting background. She aims to give delegates a clear understanding of what is required in order to start a business. Delegates should feel more encouraged and confident about the business start up process.
